Eau De Karl Lagerfeld

Can this man not do anything that’s remotely linked to the fashion industry? Karl Lagerfeld has signed a twenty year-long agreement with perfume company Inter Parfums SA.

Previously Lagerfeld was in a binding contract with beauty house Coty relating with all cosmetics products under the Lagerfeld branding. However Karl Lagerfeld has ended his contract and has stated that “nothing’s more exciting than a new venture and I am sure that Inter Parfums will go in the best direction and that they have the possibility and the will to do so.”

Inter Parfums SA is a relatively new company founded in 1982, although respectfully new it is far from the small it holds perfume licences for a lot of the heavy hitters such as Paul Smith, Jimmy Choo, Balmain and Burberry.

We hope that this new venture is a great success and we’re a little certain that this relationship will be far from dull ;)

James Franco is set to add another etch in his long list of achievements he is now the advertising director for fashion brand Stuart Weitzman new ad campaign.

The End Of The World star has directed and created a short film/ad campaign for the footwear brand starring model Petra Nemcova. The short film is dubbed ‘Walking After Midnight.’ A synopsis of the movie is that of Petra Nemcova running around New York whilst wear Stuart Weitzman shoes respectfully, she visits such destination as Le Baron Nightclub and Peels restaurant.

26^th October is the official release date however there are four short teasers that are found on Stuart Weitzman’s facebook page.

Mr. Franco is no stranger to the fashion world he had previously directed a fashion campaign and designed a line of tees for denim bran 7 for all Mankind and has modelled for Gucci.

Our note: Throughout the fashion world we see actors and musician endorsing fashion brands, some having a positive impact on certain brands in this case we feel that James Franco has such. He is using this professional skill as an actor to create respected influence on the brand.

OBE recipient Lulu Guinness is set to create a spring 2013 line with US retailer JC Penney. The brand will be given its own dedicated boutique section in the conglomerate chain store.

Martin Mason CEO of Lulu Guinness said “it is incredibly exciting to be launching out new accessible collection with JC Penny and to be pioneering a whole new concept and store experience for our customers.’ The Lulu by Lulu Guinness collection will consist of handbags, accessories and a gift collection (sadly this is only exclusive available to the US only)

Launched in London in 1989, Lulu Guinness has become an icon for retro glamour and modern design. Her unique designs are also available in stores such as Harrods, Selfridges and Fortnum and Mason.

Our note: We are always elated to hear news of British designers who are set on making a mark worldwide. Lulu has always been a prominent figure in the accessories industry. We hope her all the best in her new partnership.

Hedi Slimane the French born fashion designer debut his first collection for Yves Saint Laurent during Paris Fashion Week. The collection had great praise from many of the fashion industry elite.

Pierre Berge who has been a long term partner with YSL had said the collection was “sublime” and that he showed to the world that he followed in the footsteps of previous YSL designers and that “he respected the codes of Saint Laurent”

Alber Elbaz the creative director of Lanvin had also commended the designer stating that it was “It was very Hedi and it was very Saint Laurent.” Hedi Slimane’s collections have always delivered a very slick design, in this instance his collection was a fusion of contemporary silhouette and that of the seventies. It was evident that his inspiration was heavily dwelled on the archives of previous collections presented by Yves Saint Laurent.

Our note: This is a collection that is aimed purely on the end user which are YSL’s consumers. Hedi Slimane presented a look that is ready to wear although his collection is focused on the cut, fit and fabrication we feel that he had taken a safe route we would have loved to see collection that defies the norm but this may be what Yves Saint Laurent as a fashion house needs. Stability comes to our mind.

P.s. We know that companies not called Yves Saint Laurent but we’re not a MASSIVE FAN OF THE NEW name Saint Laurent bring back YSL.

It seems that the royals are helping M&S with its sales. A Pair of nude platform court shoes is seen flying off the shelves at the British retailer and this is due to Kate Middleton (Duchess of Cambridge). Kate was seen wearing a very similar pair, keen shoppers are eager to emulate the Duchess’s style.

A statement from M&S are suggesting that the popularity of this design makes this one of its best-selling shoe style of all time, they state that a pair is sold every two minutes.
A statement from Sally Ambrose the buying agent for footwear and accessories of the British retailer had said that the sale and popularity of nude court shoes has grown by royal proportions.

These shoes are available on the Marks & Spencer’s website under the Limited Collection label.

The Duchess effect is in real swing at the moment and there is no question that many companies will keep a keen interest on the young royal’s fashion be sure to see many other items of similar nature that are seen worn by the Duchess.

Lulu Betsey Johnson set to launch her own fashion label

Like mother and daughter comes to terms when we put the Betsey clan together. Lulu Betsey the daughter of eccentric fashion designer is following in her mother’s footsteps Lulu is set to launch a fashion line with her best friend Allison McClellen called Lulu and Allison.

She states that it will definitely have the “Betsey aesthetic” but it will be toned down aesthetic so that they will have a modern feel to it. Lulu Betsey also commented that the collection will be a line for women who want to be hip, sexy and cool.

Her adoring mother Betsey Johnson uttered these sweet words to her daughter “My archives, my knowledge, everything - I hope at the end of the day, I give it all to you and hope that you’re happy.” It’s quite refreshing to see this sort of relationship in the public domain. We hope all the success in this line.

Brazilian Fashion

London was undoubtedly the centre of the limelight this year because of the amount of great spectacles; The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the London 2012 Olympics and London 2012 Paralympics however the closing ceremony of London 2012 Olympics was one which showed the world an insight to the culture and fashion of the largest South American country, Brazil.

During the handover of the Olympics from London to Rio 26 million worldwide viewers saw performances by an array of glittering flamboyant Brazilian dancers, wearing high visible attires that being said that is not all Brazil has to offer (like Great Britain we saw a countless amount of the population wearing Red, White and Blue) Brazil is a nation which is full of colour the dancers were just a small aspect of the culture that they offer.

Undoubtedly, we will see a rise in Brazilian designers in mainstream fashion and this is already apparent with the emergence of Cris Barros, Vanessa Montoro and Patricia Viera which were clearly the ones to keep an eye during Sao Paulo Fashion week.

Our note: Cris Barros, Vanessa Montoro and Patricia Viera all have designs which are very clean cut and each design house has subtle hints which distinguish themselves from each other. Cris Barros’s design has an infusion of urban refinement (a balance which is very challenging to maintain). Vanessa Montoro’s design is very ‘chic’ and they can rival any attires made by the big hitters of fashion. To tell you the truth we are really excited with Patricia Viera’s work her designs in our opinion are ready to be introduced in Great Britain her designs are very intuitive to London Fashion and this isn’t surprising as she has worked closely with buying houses like Barneys NY, Collette, Paul Smith, Biff & Banner,
Joyce Hong Kong, Browns, Feathers, Bugatti, and others.

Like how the limelight was fixated with London culture, music and fashion we hope that these blossoming designers can capitalise on the exposure that will be present during 2016 because those few weeks can make them into house hold names.

Eccentric fashion designer Betsey Johnson is set to launch an affordable new dress line. Having previously filed for bankruptcy protection in April of this year she intends to move into the dress business, this being said Betsy will work in conjunction with Levy Group design director, Suzi Chin. Could this collaboration with Suzi Chin just be implemented so that the Levy Group can keep an eye on their financial investment? They both aim to capitalize on the more “affordable” clothing range, it is reported that the new dress line will retail in the region of £60 - £160.

Donald Levy president of The Levy Group has been quoted in saying that “We are (pleased) to be working with Betsey on her new dress collection,” and that “It was a natural progression to continue into another category.”

Anya Hindmarch, the Essex born fashion accessories designer has caused a little stir in the fashion world as of recent. Her company has been valued at a staggering figure of £30 million. It is a massive feet considering she opened her first shop at the age of 19 at Walton Street, London. The valuation of the company was announced because a private Qatari investment group has obtained majority stake in the label. However Anya Hindmarch will still hold the title of chairman and chief creative officer.

The Hindmarch Company now based in Battersea offers its range to almost all major retail chains in the world. Her accessories are well acquainted with the rich and famous the likes of Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightley, Scarlett Johansson, Madonna and a lot more have been all spotted with Anya Hindmarch accessories.

Our note: It is great to hear news like this that a person who lives not far from us has become such a renowned designer. We love her handbags; they are always must-have bags of every season. Those that may not be familiar with Anya Hindmarch we are sure that you have seen the “I’m not a plastic bag” which was such an epic hit.

She is a great inspiration for British Fashion designers. I guess us Brits have a lot to celebrate this month (16 Gold Medals aswell)

A name can only get you so far, we feel that actors should stay in their day time profession and commit to that. This is the reason why haute couture is out of reach for us normal folks reason we say this is because the above Chanel suit took a staggering 3000s hours to make. Based on UK national minimum wage that would equate to a figure of £18,240 and that is just to produce this piece (we’re guessing even the Mona Lisa didn’t take this long to produce).

We believe we can say clothing designers like Karl Lagerfeld are now considered the modern day Da Vinci.

Yesterday marked the official arrival of Raf Simons under the Christian Dior banner with an offering of highly coveted couture gowns and attires that had made the entire fashion world drool during Paris Haute Couture Week 2012.

Regarded as one of the most highly anticipated designer debuts in fashion history, Raf Simon’s use of a mixture of modern and pre 1950’s décor was prominent in this collection. The line was very clean and had a touch of femininity about it. Simon’s debut line is a true homage to Dior’s ideology.

However it must be said that the Belgian designer had injected his own twist to the collection as we had previously stated his designs may not always scream out femininity an ideal example would be of that of his first look a tuxedo featuring a bar jacket, it seems that he has used his past endeavours at Jil Sanders as part of his muse for this collection. Barring a few looks there had been a spread of amazing party frocks, couture gowns and dresses that captured Dior’s essence and judging by this collection it may be hinting to Dior fans of the route the creative director plans to take (a more youthful direction).

Our note: The Paris collection was far from being beautiful, a clichéd note to say but it was beyond anything of which the fashion world has seen, with such an array of pieces each beautifully crafted to create an image of a youthful era, we feel that Raf Simons demonstrated the ability to not only capture the Dior’s iconic image but he encapsulated the future of the fashion world.

It would a little sadistic to call Raf Simons a virtuous replacement for John Galliano because the fact is what Galliano had produced for Christian Dior was unprecedented, Galliano paved the wave for the modern and chic image that Dior are renowned for in this modern age, however it must be said that Raf Simons is paving the wave for a newer and a refreshed take on the modern and chic image that Galliano had instilled as creative director, we feel that Raf Simons has the potential to take and catapult Dior to an even greater height and the is indication is evident in his debut collection.

Congratulations to Christian Dior and to that of the amazing Raf Simons.

Fashion against Arms Trade

Keira Knightley, Vivienne Westwood, Helena Christensen , Jane Birkin and Sophie Dahl were among the many that have teamed up to help Oxfam and Amnesty International to urge the United Nations to improve rules and regulations of the arms trade around the world.

We would like to state a horrid statistic there are two bullets to every human being in this global world this means that an estimated figure of 12 billion bullets is being produced per annum.

The long list of fashion figures have signed a letter that will be given to the UN Secretary General addressing the need for “a strong and effective treaty” that will be internationally bound and that would help protect human rights by preventing the flow of arms into reckless arms users.

The letter further states “With so few global rules governing the arms trade, no one really knows where all those bullets will end up - or whose lives they will tear apart. Under the current system, there are less global controls on the sales of ammunition and guns than on bananas and bottled water. It’s a ridiculous situation.”

Out note: We have always said that the fashion industry has always had a profound effect on a vast amount of people, fashion followers can be in the hundreds of millions and we must acknowledge that those who are participating in this movement have shown humanity, compassion and benevolence to those who may not even have the human right to do so.

The document will be put forward to the UN ahead of a world government meeting today, which will agree an Arms Trade Treaty.

This may be a delight for many fashion movie buffs, rumours has it that there may be a sequel to the immeasurably hilarious movie “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Emily Blunt has already stated prior to the announcement of the second instalment that she would like to feature in the sequel. Alongside the support shown my Ms.Blunt, Meryl Streep yesterday stated that she would consider reprising her fierce role as Miranda Priestly, the the editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine Runway although she further stated to do so she may “have to lose the f***ing weight”. The Miranda Priestly character is said to be based on another famous real life editor-in-chief of a very BIG fashion magazine …

Lauren Weisberger’s new book dubbed “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns” is expected to arrive in all major book stores in April next year. The story will be based again on Andy Sachs (played by Anne Hathaway in the first instalment) her new job as a bridal magazine editor involves her to have a number of unexpected encounters with her former boss (that’s all we known so don’t ask for more hints)

Well we hope that there is a sequel and that Lauren Weisberger’s allows it because the Devil Wears Prada movie and novel was unbelievably funny.

With no question of a doubt we’ll be sure to see those breathe taking couture gowns if they intend to make a part duex.

Muhammed Ali the legendary boxer is the new face of the Core Value campaign by Louis Vuitton, the campaign will appear on the international press from today, June 15^th. The three time heavyweight world champion of the world seems to be out shadowed by his grandson C.J pictured in his Arizona home wearing a vintage boxing glove.
Could he be a rising star destined to be a future champ? It may be too early to say but the fact that he has direct lineage with probably thee most renowned sports figure in the world we could not dismiss it.

Yves Carcelle, Chairman of Louis Vuitton has stated “Muhammad Ali is the epitome of an outstanding personality - a true living legend in boxing and far beyond,” and the organisation also stated that “We are honoured that he agreed to be photographed for the Core Values campaign, and delighted with the way this beautiful portrait of the champion and his grandson captures the idea of transmission, which is of great significance to Louis Vuitton.”

Ali now follows in the footsteps of previous core value campaigners such as Bono, Keith Richards, Sofia and Francis Ford Coppola. If you have not noticed yet these personalities are those of global stature, they are beyond the so called “celebrity status” they are individuals who are recognised and revered around the world. Considering that this year’s focal point is surrounded by International sports such as the Olympic 2012, Great Britian and European Football/Soccer 2012, Poland and Ukraine, Muhammed Ali seems to be the only person that would do justice to such a campaign.

Today’s reports from the fashion world are suggesting that alpha house Dolce & Gabbana are set to create their first ever collections for babies. The line will be aimed at new-borns and young children up to the age of 10. Based D&G’s ideology these garments will be stylish and slick to the core.

It seems the duo have taken inspiration from one of their siblings “I didn’t know much about this world, but Domenico’s brother has three children aged two to six,” said Gabbana.

The line will consist of daywear, innerwear, beachwear, accessories and footwear. Both have stated that although the line will be quite similar to the D&G adult line but it will still maintain the key element of child wear practicality. Having had performed countless interviews with mothers the duo have said that they have obtain a vast amount of knowledge.

The line is hinted to have sequined party dress, mini suits and many more; it seems the pair are not compromising on the lavish end even though it’s just child’s play.

It seems that Sir Philip Green is taking a stab at collaborating with high end fashion label, it is said that Topman are to collaborate with JW Anderson. The hot London fashion week designer is set to launch a knitwear collection this September.

Anderson has already created a cult following, he has become a prominent member in the knitwear sector, creating knitwear designs for both sexes. The Topman and JW Anderson collection will include jersey, knitwear, outerwear and denim. This move by Arcadia group is seen a direct retaliation to H&M and their success with high profiled fashion collaborations.

However the difference between the collaborating approach the Arcadia group have adopted is a lot different from to that of H&M. Topman have out reached to a collaborator that is an up and coming and is set to become a renowned designer in the fashion world. For those that didn’t know the Scottish Fashion Awards has become somewhat of a scandal. The awards ceremony has been plagued with negative attention mainly from the frontman of the British rock band Mariillon, Derek Dick. He accused the association of treating models with minimal or non-existence care, models as young as 15 were kept waiting for hours in freezing rooms with little to eat or drink.

These remarks came shortly after Derek Dick’s daughter Tara a model who had been nominated for the model of the year category had lost out to Tali Lennox (the daughter of Annie Lennox a Scottish singer-songwriter, political activist and philanthropist). However Derek Dick’s outburst had not ended there he coyly commented that the award for model of the year was predetermined to Tali Lennox.

Organisers of the awards ceremony hit back to Derek’s comments branding him as a “bad loser” and “I think this is the reaction of an over-emotional dad who wanted his wee girl to win”. The Organisers had clearly seemed to note that this stunt may cause more harm than good to his daughters modelling career. In regards to the awards fixing scandal the award’s chairman Tessa Hartman had said “I also think it’s a bit silly of him (Derek Dicks) to suggest the judging was pre-ordained. All the girls do well because we give them this phenomenal platform. I put Tara’s magnificent face on the cover of our even magazine”.

Other than these turmoil’s the awards ceremony seem to go without a hitch, with the likes of Millie Mackintosh, David Gandy, Jade Ewan, Alexa Chung and Stella Tennant being present it seems that this awards ceremony may become a must attend in the near future.

Louis Vuitton the luxury fashion house has teamed up with legendary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.

Yayoi Kusama, at 82 years-old, is arguably one of Japan’s most reputable artists. Her portfolio spans over decades from such art works as the Repetitive Vision (1996), Narcissus Garden (2009), Red Pumpkin (2006), these are amongst the many art forms that Kusama has created however Louis Vuitton have announced that they will create a range of designs with Yayoi Kusama and we are presuming that it feature her predominant design signature ‘the polka dots’

Yayoi Kusama’s work has been influenced and mirrored by many artist probably the most famous cult icon would be that of Andy Warhol, he had often spoke of her artwork being a great inspiration. Currently an exhibition is being held at the Tate Modern, London showcasing Kusama’s artwork.

Marc Jacobs the creative director at Louis Vuitton has stated that the line ‘has the essence of the spirit of her work.’ He not only views Kusama’s work in the highest degree but he states that her work and design are both ‘timeless’ and ‘endless.’

The collection will focus on Kusama’s bold signature spots, which will appear on skirts, tops, leggings and handbags. You may or may not have already noticed that the whole LV website is now a great homage to this artist.

Our note: We feel that this collaboration is a union that is well fitted. Kusama’s artwork installation is beyond measurable, having been a fan of not only her artwork but also her writings, filmography and her even how she can create such forms of expression in her state of personal wellbeing is something that we admire. The fact that Louis Vuitton have teamed up with a visionary like Yayoi Kusama we feel that we must give them a nod of appreciation (the fashion house will be show casing her art work to the masses).

The Chosen: 6 for London’s first mens fashion week

London’s first “Men’s Only Fashion Week” is only a few weeks away and it seems that the British fashion industry have scheduled those dates in their mind, Blackberry, Iphone and their Filofax (it’s a hotly anticipated affair).

With this amount of publicity surrounding the menswear industry in the Britain, the British Fashion Council announced their S/S13 Newgen Award which in effect means the recipient of these awards are the selected designers to represent their works during the fashion week. The selected six will receive mentoring and support to showcase their latest collections at the maiden London Collections: Men 15^th – 17^th June 2012.

The Chosen 6:

Lou Dalton : Lou studied at the Royal College of Art. She has previously worked for Hamish Morrow, Stone Island, Crucianni Knitwear and Charlie Allen.
Design signature: “Rebellious English sportswear with a strong attention to detail.”

Sibling: Design trio Sid Bryan, Joe Bates and Cozette McCreery comprise “Sibling.” The trio bring with them a strong scale of experience as they have previously worked with a number of top name designers.
Design signature: “Colourful, well-made, luxury knitwear for a man bored with the grey V-neck option.” And not forgetting the shake-up of luxury wer with cartoon ka-pows of colour and bams of very English humour.

Christopher Raeburn: Graduated from the Royal College of Art, mainly freelanced as a pattern cutter before setting up his own studio.
Design signature: “Innovative, functional and fun.”

Martine Rose: Martine Rose was a co-founder member of highly-acclaimed fashion label LMNOP. Their collections were also sold internationally mainly to Japan and London.
Design signature: Tailored garments made with textiles that offer you a grand-demure with bold colour statements.

Matthew Miller: Like Raeburn Miller also studied at the Royal College of Art. Before setting up his own label, he worked on design projects with Umbro and Brioni.
Design signature: “formed from an investigation into the technological versus the traditional; performance fabrics, tailoring and sportswear detailing form the basis of the Mr. Matthew Miller look.”

Andrew Bunney: Originally worked for a vintage clothing company as a buying specialist and then worked for many other companies specialising as a designer or a design consultant.
Design signature: “A juggle between making something that is simple and understandable, with something that is special enough to have a new or fresh character.”

Our note: We at frontpose can’t wait to see these collection, it’s going to be great. We feel that this event that is specifically catered towards just menswear industry is well awaited for, to tell you the truth we felt that it was about time that the B.F.C. thought to introduce such a event, when you think about it the mens fashion industry is worth billions, Britain needed to acknowledge that these menswear designers need an outlet to also advertise there work.
